Ways to Practice Self-Care at Home

Ways to Practice Self-Care at Home

The spread of the COVID-19 pandemic has led to massive shutdowns worldwide. With this, the majority are largely confined to our homes for at least a couple of weeks. Many people are experiencing a great deal of anxiety, uncertainty, and even fear during this time. Moreover, many of our self-care practices may fall to the wayside as we are stuck in our homes. However, now is as important as ever to maintain our self-care practices.

Why is Self-Care so Important?

Self-care practices are activities that we intentionally and routinely do in order to maintain our emotional, physical, and mental health. With the pace of society, many of us get caught up in the rush of everyday life and forget to take care of ourselves. Over time, everyday stressors can build up and cause serious issues in our ability to cope and take care of our lives. Creating a routine that incorporates self-care helps to prevent stress from becoming unmanageable.

At Home Self-Care Practices

Many self-care practices involve doing things outside of the home, like going to the gym, to classes, or out with friends. However, during these times, many of us cannot continue to partake in the same self-care practices that we would normally do. Rather than giving up on self-care practices, it is important to get creative and find new ways to relax.

Here are Self-Care Practices to Do at Home:

  • Curl up with an interesting book to read

  • Find a new tv show or movie to watch

  • Look up a new recipe to cook or bake

  • Spend time snuggling with a pet

  • Connect with loved ones

  • Crack open a journal and write down your thoughts

  • Try out some at home workouts

  • Start a puzzle or play a board game

  • Draw, paint, or create something
