What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?
Cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT, is a common therapy treatment. Many of us have heard about it, but what is CBT?
All about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive behavioral therapy is based in the principal that our thoughts, feelings, and behavior are all intricately tied together. Our thoughts influence our feelings, which influence our behavior, which in turn, influence our thoughts.
The Principals of CBT
The core of CBT is that many psychological issues we experience are based on maladaptive ways of thinking and behaving. The goal of cognitive-behavioral therapy is to identify our negative ways of thinking and behaving, and in turn, discover more positive ways of thinking and behaving. In addition, CBT focuses on finding positive coping skills to help deal with things that come up in life.
These goals are accomplished by looking into both our thoughts and behaviors, and working to actively work on improving our negative patterns of thinking and behaving.
